Present the Notary Public Commission application in person to the Cherokee County Superior Court’s office or Cherokee County Clerk (Annex) along with verification of your Cherokee County residency (i.e., valid driver’s license with current Cherokee County address of State of Georgia ID card with Cherokee County address). Renewal applications may be submitted thirty (30) days prior to your expiration date but must be received before your commission expires. Renewal applications are valid only for those holding a current unexpired appointment from Cherokee County. The fee for renewal is $55.00. Applicants who apply in person may pay by personal check, business check, money order, credit card or debit card. You must now complete the required Notary Public training thirty (30) days prior to your expiration date as well at; https://elearn.gsccca.org(https://elearn.gsccca.org/) RENEWAL BY MAIL If you prefer to mail in your renewal application, please follow the instructions below. Renewal applications may be submitted thirty (30) days prior to your expiration date but must be received before your commission expires. Please print or type the information (except signatures) on the Renewal Application (https://www.gsccca.org/notary-and-apostilles/notaries/notary-public-application)(Click on link.) One (1) copy is required. Applicant shall complete the application and sign before a Notary Public. Notary Public will then sign and affix their seal. Print three (3) copies of the Certificate of Appointment.(https://www.cherokeega.com/Clerk-of-Courts/_resources/documents/notary/NotaryCertificateAppointment.pdf) Only sign on the line entitled, “Notary’s signature”. The Clerk’s office will complete the top section of the form. Return three (3) original copies of the signed Certificate of Appointment with your application. Enclose your check or money order in the sum of $55.00 payable to the Clerk of Cherokee Superior Court. Fill out the form completely, including any criminal convictions (with the exception of driving offenses) you have had. Your signature on the application must be notarized. If you do not know a notary that can assist you, wait and sign when you arrive at the Clerk’s office. One of the employees will gladly notarize your signature. 4. Have two other residents of Cherokee County who are not related to you and 18 years or older, fill out the endorsement sections of the application attesting to your good character. 5. Present the notary public commission application in person within fourteen (14) days of application to the Cherokee County Clerk of Superior Court’s office along with verification of your Cherokee County residency (i.e. Georgia driver’s license with Cherokee County address and State of Georgia ID card with Cherokee County address.) 6. The fee is $55.00. Forms of payment accepted: cash, check or money order payable to Clerk of Superior Court or you may pay with your credit or debit card.

A notary commission in the State of Georgia is valid for four (4) years.

In order to be appointed as a Notary Public in Cherokee County you must: 1. Be a United States citizen or be a legal resident of the United States 2. Be a resident of Cherokee County, Georgia 3. Be at least 18 years of age 4. Be able to read and write the English language 5. Have, and provide at the time of the application, the applicants operating phone number

The Cherokee County Clerk of Superior Court’s office is open Monday-Friday from 8:30 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. (excluding county-recognized holidays), Appointments are not necessary.

You will receive a two (2) Certificates of Appointment. One of the certificates is for your records. The other may be taken to any office supply to obtain your notary seal and/or stamp.

Whether you move to another county or stay within Cherokee County, your commission will be registered through Cherokee County for the entire four years. The handbook contains information on guidelines, Notarial fees, recordkeeping, notarial acts, responsibilities of a notary, and a reference guide.
